Her parents are Harvey Welker a Native American father, and Julie Welker an African-American mother. She is the daughter of an indigenous father and an African-American mom. Walker was educated through Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown region, where she was able to graduate in 1994. She then attended Harvard College, where she obtained a Bachelors in Arts degree. Welker was married John Hughes in Philadelphia, who was an acclaimed marketing director. The couple have two daughters. They began having an affair. John his husband, John's father is four years younger than John.
